Acupuncture

Acupuncture is based on the concept that the body has a vital energy, or Qi (pronounced Chee), which flows throughout the body along different pathways or channels. In Chinese medicine it is believed pain or illness are often caused by a disruption or blockage of this Qi flow. This may occur for a variety of reasons, such as poor nutrition, emotional stress, physical injury or infection.

Acupuncture unblocks or activates the flow of Qi by the insertion of very thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body. While hundreds of acupuncture points can be found all over the body, acupuncturists carefully select a handful of these points in order to restore the body’s balance and stimulates the body’s natural healing processes.

Acupuncture treatments are designed to affect the whole body, you may therefore find that it assists with some of your other health issues. For example, some patients report improved sleep, a strong energy boost or feeling calmer. Many patients also feel a sense of relaxation after their acupuncture treatments and a general increased sense of wellbeing.

Our practitioners use an extremely gentle technique when inserting each needle. You may feel a slight pinprick as the needle is inserted followed by a general heaviness or warmth in the area. Acupuncture is generally not painful or uncomfortable but if you do feel any discomfort please let your practitioner know and she will adjust the treatment accordingly.
